Our approach to the restoration of this derelict former Grade II listed cotton mill was to draw a clear distinction between the original buildings and the new interventions.
We achieved this by faithfully revealing and restoring the cast iron columns, stone lintels and brick arches, together with the various scars of time, to celebrate the history and use of these important local landmarks. New interventions are simple and clearly modern, avoiding any ambiguity with the original building fabric.
Responding to the existing building elements in this way required exceptional attention to detail, resulting in a rich mix of 44 uniquely different apartments.
The mill forms part of our wider masterplan for the regeneration of the Castle Street area in the heart of Stalybridge.
