This three-story, plinth-standing building has been constructed as a residential house in 1872, according to the plans of “Eduard Kreyßligs”. It was renovated and extended by a side and courtyard wing preserving its historical design. Both wings were intentionally built in a fairly reduced design vocabulary in order to emphasise the characteristics of the main building. This contrast specifically serves as a creative means for supporting a new and significant symbiosis. In comparison to the main building, the first and second level floor plates are lowered for ensuring that the roof edge of the courtyard wing is not higher than the neighbouring buildings, according to building regulations. The courtyard wing’s two stories are joined by a surrounding frame of dark coloured concrete giving the impression of a large window facing the yard. Closed ventilation flaps rhythmize the façade. The side wing with its roughly broken silver quartzite façade mediates between the main building storeys and the courtyard wing.
