Restaurant & auditorium ‘LE CARROUZEL’ by ANTHRACITE architecture 2.0 in collaboration with David CRAS architect. The building is located in a new business district of the city [Rennes, FR]where are located main headquarters. The site is well connected with the main highway which bring traffic from the north to the south part of city. Rennes, is the major city of Brittany region, and has a population over 200 000 inhabitants. The site area is visible from the highway, the dimensions of this program is to induce a clear break with the rest of the area. The whole issue of the project was therefore to enhance the contrast, so that the building clearly reveals its function: «the break». The clear easy-cut volumetry and the naturalistic materializing of the concrete panels represents a vertical monolith heartin the middle of verticals rhythm of surrounding architecture. The design has two distinct faces: one towards the main road and one facing the vertical architecture of the headquarters. Both faces derive their qualities and appearance from the surroundings. The raod facade is more horizontal, broad and refined. The courtyard facade has large transparent surfaces exhibit the restaurant interior. To enhance the functional clarity of the project, each floor is designed to have one function and one openings constitute the particular view on surrounding . This space saving configuration makes it possible to fit the desired program into the tight prescribed envelope.
