The new interior of the library connects to several elements within the landscape.
The specification given to M+R interieurarchitecten was to find a solution for a wide range of functions within the existing building of the library in Roosendaal, The Netherlands. The Emile van Loonhuis, a monument which dates back to1850, is part of the existing building volume. M+R came up with a solution whereby the interior had to connect several elements. A covered square in the heart of the building serves as a central entrance. Office functions, catering services, two staircases to the library and the Van Loonhuis are located around the square. This static house is transformed into a reading room and youth library. The library can be reached via a footbridge that crosses the central square. Its glass façade provides a view on the park. The interior that connects the elements is not only colourful, but opens up as well. Bright coloured counters and floor patterns guides the visitor through a landscape of spaces and functions.
