Jockey Plaza Boulevard III

Jockey Plaza Boulevard III

Metrópolis Oficina de Arquitectura as Architects

Jockey Plaza has always been one of the biggest and most recognized shopping malls in the country; it has always had innovative designs and experiences, which makes it a reference for new standards in shopping malls.

In this new expansion we seek to give a different experience than the rest, making it an avant-garde space, achieved by the new incorporated elements. They consist mainly of more organic elements, these great trees that welcome the visitor, with leaves that have distinct light effects, which resembles a forest, with the tree tops high up.

The lighting in this project plays one of the key roles due to it being what stands out, along with the three-dimensional design that helped us develop this aesthetic. The light complements the luminous tower and they are both part of the synchronization of this almost theatrical scene. In this way the visitors or passer-by not only obtain entertainment in the activities they can achieve in the locales but also the ambient itself.

The walk also has another element, a locale in the shape of a red geode, which adds to the avant-garde affect that we are looking to give and at the same time it gives the walk a different and impactful appearance.

This locale is an experience comparable to the greatest shopping malls, for example in Hon Kong, Las Vegas, Dubai or London, that seek that their experience be enriched by the walk about of the place.

The “Jockey Plaza Shopping Center” mall is an edifice constructed by a complex of shopping locales and/or department shops and/or offices, organized inside an integral plan, destined to the buy-sell of goods and/or services, recreation and/or relaxation.

The Jockey Plaza Shopping Center is strategically located; in the intersection of the two most important highway axes in the city. The remodelation project encompasses approximately 3,625.56m² in area.

The project labeled as “BOULEVARD THIRD STAGE” is a commercial construct developed in a single floor, destined to activities whose end purposed is the commercialization of goods and services, composed by commercial locales. These locales are places along pedestrian axis that connect the existing mall with the Boulevard on the second floor. The proposal´s main idea is the continuation of the creation of the urban space created in the boulevard, generating continuity; a safe and equipped meeting point where neighborhood life can be recreated. The draft for this remodelation started with two articulating elements:

1) Pedestrian circulation axis, serve as connection to the Plaza Vea zone, anchor store market, and the Jockey Plaza Boulevard. These circulations are designed so as to create a continuous, natural pedestrian flow through the project and mall, creating the sufficient tension to generate permanent interior transit that guaranteed the success of all operations.

2) Plaza: Exhibition and sale area, this plaza serves as an articulating element for the pedestrian flows that come together in the third stage and as connection with the flows of the second stage. It’s a focal point to generate the necessary tension and attraction for the user to navigate the pedestrian axis in a natural way and to ensure commercial success of the locales that are located in the project. The great contribution of this proposal consists of the creation of successive small plazas in the different stages of the project, in the intersection of the articulating paths that allows having different meeting points and creates value in the interior commercial areas making all stores attractive. Commercial locales have been planed as distributed around the circulation axis in such a way that a continuous volumetry is generated from the plaza, from the boulevard, to the cinema plaza.

One important circulation axis and one transversal axis that allow the connection and evacuation of the user in case of any contingency have been additionally planed and placed strategically in the project.

The group of facades has been designed to have impact and to show the offer of the shopping mall during day and night with a unique lighting proposal, continuing the boulevard´s.

The whole of the Project is planned so as to have a landscape solution that enriches it´s spaces as well as a commercial illumination treatment that values commercial spaces.
