Sprouting from the Ancients

Project area that takes place in an urban fabric consists of comparatively narrow streets is “a beautiful empty space”. Project topic is to evaluate this empty space in general as a gathering and market place. It is considered that, the easiest and the most applicable method for a place that serves for gathering act is not to build a “mass” in this area as much as possible in order to provide a perception in urban fabric and it is worked in order to reach a construction which keeps the empty space feeling in highest level.

If there were a market stand roadside in the area, it would have been created a platform as an extension of this stand. So, people would see more market stands together and perceive the market at a glance. As a big one stand…

Project area is an archeological protected area and there are high potential ruins under it. Also, equivalent task of the plane is to be a cover whose structural columns would develop in the opposite direction for excavation area below it for this historical potential, when it is time. This cover is a symbolizing border between past and present during excavation time. It reflects (raises) the signs of past to nowadays by this cover . “Arch" which is the most common building element of architecture of those ancient civilizations lived in the area, is carried to surface as the combiner of columns. Arch group symbolizes as 1 degree for each century as a total rotating of 26 degree, for almost 2600 years starting from the first settlements B.C. 658 until now. They are stretched to evoke passing time. Perception is provided by resulting metamorphosis fiction. Resulting platform and arches that undergone metamorphosis are the determinatives (totems) of values on the area. They point out the values under the area. Under cover is the past itself and above cover is the part comes to nowadays from the depth of time, it invites remote urban explorers to see these values here.
