Impluvium Home

Customers request focused on the need of a considerable amount of daylight and of bright and airy spaces. The design solution is based on the inclusion of an interior patio, which become a central element of space and shows a strong similarity with the impluvium of traditional Roman house. This house is located in an old historical printing office in Milan. One of design purposes was to change the building function, from productive to residential, in accordance with local regulations while maintaining a direct dialogue between historical value of industrial spaces and their new features. A stretched and narrow shape, about 7 x 21 meters, compelled to look for alternative distributive systems, especially because of floors different levels that had to be maintained for structural reasons. The residence is cozy and introverted, a protection from the frantic city, a kind of sophisticated shelter. The space is open, immediately understandable with a simple design.
