About this project
FBM Architects are on the IBM Framework. We were asked to submit a feasibility study containing proposals for the IBM ‘Digital Hub of London’. Located in the IBM Southbank location on the banks of the River Thames, the Studio is the hub of IBM Design in London and hosts local teams from IBM Interactive Experience, the largest digital agency in the world, IBM Marketing Innovation Group, which enables digital discovery and marketing to build new engagement models, as well as local IBM product designers.
New works include extension and alterations to the main reception area and new café refurbishment, works to the main stair cores and ground floor toilets. The overall aim of the combined projects was to improve the user and client experience and elevate IBM’s presence along the South Bank.
The extension located under the existing under-croft aimed to enhance the streetscape whilst offering a blank canvas in which IBM can display new innovations and create an interactive experience for both staff and visitors. The building was locally listed by Lambeth Council on 22 March 2010 due to the fact that it was designed by Sir Denys Lasdun and its relationship with the adjacent Grade II listed National Theatre building (also designed by Sir Denys Lasdun). IBM’s head UK premises is located on the South Bank of the River Thames between the National Theatre and the London Television Studios.
The property is a 1972’s purpose built commercial building providing approximately 20,000m2 of office (Class B1 use) floor space over six floors.
