Hype

Gad Architecture as Architects

Hype is a mixed-use urban design proposal for Istanbul, Turkey. This is a proposal for residential, commercial, and retail space, organized around a central spine- a landscaped garden. A number of issues were at play in the organization of the site, including the presence of residential neighborhoods to the east of the site, an industrial zone to the north & west, and a historic hippodrome to the southwest. The site, while not directly adjacent to the sea, holds the potential for elevated views to the Marmara Sea. It is the interplay of these forces that generated the initial concept for Hype.

Hype is a 120,000 m2 development, including 4 residential towers along the west edge of the site, forming a border to the industrial development to the west. These towers allow potential users to have a view over the neighboring development to the sea, an invaluable amenity in Istanbul. As a response to the neighboring residential neighborhoods to the east of the site, a landscaped edge forms an edge along the street. This retail development allows direct access for the residential community, and creates a transitional edge between the city and landscaped garden within.

Hype is one of a number of urban proposals participating in a rapidly growing city, and strives to set itself apart as an example of intelligent growth in Istanbul.
