Facade Story by Si-X Facade

Extension of a 30's villa

De Bever Architecten as Architects

The house is situated on a corner lot in the typical 30’s district ‘de Elzent’ against the natural landscape of the river Dommel valley, in the center of Eindhoven, The Netherlands. The existing main house is relatively small in structure, however the lot size is sufficient enough to resist an carefully threaded extension. An extension where extra comfort is added to the existing house.

The transparent addition to the house is a continuation of an earlier exterior expansion with thin floating concrete eaves. These overhangs give a balanced picture, allowing the spaces seamlessly to blend, and gives the garden an intimate enclosed character.

The sightlines are important, creating separate spaces as a study niche, a lowered seating area with wide windowsills and a hanging fireplace. The roof connects the spaces seamlessly into each other.

Much attention is paid to careful detailing. Positioning of roof lights, (curved) walls, steps, niches which store the curtains, floor heating and cooling ceiling, acoustic panels and lighting are concealed and determine the appearance and character of the area.

Concrete, stone, stainless-steel and glass The house is like a ‘furniture’. This very careful detailed expansion is designed by Stefan de Bever. The design is in our opinion the new and modern intimacy for luxury living.

Glass-details From the first sketch of this fantastic detailed expansion we have given our know how to help Stefan de Bever to realise his design. Also the close contact at the owners was very successfully. For example: we had change 1 glass-façade from 4 separate glasspanels into 1 big 7m1 long glass panel. That gives the design just the extra power! Also we had done the engineering and realising of the special doors from stone, and mirror stainless steel. In this project there are also 2 automatic sliding glass-roof-elements for the bathroom and the living. It was a difficult and risk job, because we had many “less is more” details and minimum tolerance. It’s was a funny job.

Job of Si-X We have make technical solutions, deliver and install all the glass for this great project: -Glass-façade: Extra clear laminated 8/8.4 – 16mm black spacer, argon filled - 10 mm neutral coated. This panel has a straight end of 683mm. -Automatic glass-roofs, maximum size 2.140 x 2.340mm. Sealing done by air-seal! -Minimal frame system sliding door, like PanonamaH! Switserland. -Mirror 8 stainless steel door, like a art object.
