The design of this house was driven by an insightful interpretation of the planning code, not seeing the code as a limitation or as an excuse for the same boring solutions, but as a point of departure towards creative thinking and new vitality.
This approach allowed us to preserve existing neighbor's views and light, create a central yard that all rooms look onto (rather than the typical backyard), and orient the house towards the incredible panoramic view, (stretching from Twin Peaks to the East Bay). At the top floor, the frameless 28-foot corner window and the slatted fence wrapping around the base orient the viewer in the house to the incredible downtown views. While viewed from the street they dematerialize the building's boundaries at the corner.
