Horizon Point

Horizon Point

Gad Architecture as Architects

Horizon Point is a residential development in Bodrum, Turkey, set on a hillside approximately 65m above sea level overlooking downtown Bodrum. The site is characterized by beautiful views of the sea, with unobstructed views of the Bodrum Castle. Horizon point consists of 19 residential units with a shared spa, gym and pool complex.

GAD’s proposal responds to the most pressing challenges inherent to this site, which include a sloping triangular site with strict building setback requirements. The solution focuses on two base building types, modified slightly to respond to their specific location on the site. The project consists of 7 buildings on the site, each a variation on the two base prototypes. The first type consists of a flat on the lower level, and two duplex units above.

The second type consists of two flats. Conceptually, each building units must provide a high level of privacy, despite the dense arrangement of buildings on the site, while also providing unobstructed views of the sea. Therefore, the base prototype is organized around 4 modules, each 8m X 16m. A building consists of 4 modules, wrapped on 3 sides by a thickened stone wall, providing the necessary privacy for the units and also serving to organize the external circulation between the units. Sliding wood screens & canopies contribute a third layer of detail, and serve as protection from the intense summer sun.

Horizon Point, therefore, arrives at a solution that addresses the fundamental challenges inherent to the site, and meets the challenge by proposing a unique architectural solution in Bodrum.
