When Architect Luc Nooijen of Architecten aan de Maas (NL) designed the facade for Rockpanel’s headquarters in Roermond (NL), the material he needed was obvious. He found inspiration in the Rockpanel manufacturing process. Architect Luc Nooijen: “The Rockpanel production process was a source of inspiration for me. Heating and melting the basalt and spinning the mineral wool threads into the raw primary product really spoke to my imagination. You see the liquid substance literally fly over the spinning wheels and solidify into stone threads. In the layered Rockpanel facade I tried to capture that symbolism of heating and spinning. The result is a facade in which the Rockpanel production process, and the unique qualities of the Rockpanel product, have been brought to life in a remarkable way.”
