Skate park and wall lizards – the proposed design demonstrates how a contemporary high-use sports and leisure park can integrate natural environments for urban wildlife. The seemingly contrasting requirements of vibrant activity and quiet spaces, fun sports and the contemplation of nature, are brought together in a well-defined composition with its own unique atmosphere.
The park has an open, generous format, accommodating the visual axes to Honsellbridge and Frankfurt’s city with its spectacular skyline, as well as the two prominent reference points of the EZB skyscraper and the planned high-rise tower by the harbour.
The design in its essence creates a sequence of park settings between Eyssenstrasse and the Main River: • a skate park below trees between Honsell bridge and Eyssenstrasse • a “play trail” with playing fields, playgrounds and a trellis framework as dominant spatial element and characteristic feature of the park • the open grass plateau with patches of wildflower meadow • the riverbank area with its promenade.
