The original building was built at the end of the 19th century in the historical downtown of Budapest. It was the riding hall of the biggest army fort in the city during the regime of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy (K.u.K). After the First World War the brick facade hall housed many functions. During decades it operated as a furniture stock, as a flea market and it has been closed at the end of the 1990’s. The recent owner is one of the biggest foodstore-chain of Europe. They purchased and refurbished the building in 2010. In the design of the renewal we kept the original century-old brick shell, the original iron roof structure. We placed the new function as a house-in-house. The renewed building was the finalist of the Hungarian Media Award of Architecture in 2010.
