Located in the beautiful neighbourhood of Hazenkamp in Nijmegen, NEXIT realised a garden house designed by taking the perspective of the garden into account.
It is not the first time NEXIT enriched one of the deep gardens in this popular neighbourhood with an extension. However, this time they designed the garden by taking the perspective of the garden into account. The garden design consists of a garden house with sauna, terrace, water border and storage room. Maintaining as many of the perspective diagonal lines as possible, results in an image of the garden house as an oblique, sloped volume. An attempt is made in maintaining optimal scale of intervening spaces, despite the scope of operation.
The facades of the garden house are transparent or blind and made of structural glazing and African Afzelia. In creating an extra spatial effect and blocking troublesome sunlight, blinding curtains cover the façade. The broad cavity which is created at the inside by closing the curtain, aims to avoid extreme heat accumulation. Due to the numerous additions, the surface of the garden has considerably decreased in size. To compensate for the decrease of greenery, a sedum roof gives the garden a greener appearance when viewed from the higher levels of the dwellings next to it.
