Commissioned in 2009 by The Friend’s of the High Line who were in need of a new office space in New York City, studioMDA has designed an efficient and simple office space that fulfills the office’s needs of added storage, more workstations, and a large conference table. Dedicated to maintaining public parks and preserving the historic structure of the High Line Park, the design for the space manifested these beliefs by allowing the “grass of the park” into the office space. The green carpet flooring of the office is a literal strategy to unite the interior of the office with the park. The green ‘grass’ creates the work station zone of the office. The space without the green carpet houses the conference area and the entrance. Due to limited space, a window wall clearly and simply divides the office in two areas and creates the division line between the green and the white flooring.
