Old roof cladding and leaks through various damp spots were the reasons that the roofs on the two footbridges between the buildings at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences had to be renovated.
Unusual aspects of these roofs were that they had to be accessed via a hydraulic platform and that the many details on the roof were difficult to seal (for the long term) using traditional roof cladding. Because of the many details on the lower section of the roof, there was very little space available to work in.
A long-lasting solution was sought and, in part because of good experiences of the contractor and Hogeschool Utrecht, a decision was made to use the Triflex ProTect system. This is a liquid, crack-covering, reinforced sealing system based on PMMA, which allows long-lasting seals to be created on roof surfaces and around roof detailing, even when there is only limited space available. In other words: this was the ideal solution.
An additional benefit was that the Triflex ProTect system formed an excellent adhesion with the existing (PVC) roof cladding. This meant that provisions for temporary measures and demolition costs were saved.
Now that the former roof cladding has been renovated, Hogeschool Utrecht has roofs it won’t need to worry about for many years to come.
