The task assigned by a young couple included a complete renovation of their parents´ former flat in order to turn it into a modern and fresh space. Another interesting feature was the positioning of a high- capacity fish tank into the living room. The main characteristic of the former flat plan was an oversized double entrance space which occupied an excessive amount of space. We suggested a rather radical conversion of the existing space – a removal of the inner partition walls between the kitchen, the living room and the two entrance areas which created room for further concepts. We unified the whole floor space, including the bathroom and the toilet, by using red-brown marmoleum flooring. The original room layout i.e. the living room, the kitchen and the entrance hall remained preserved due the installation of a multifunctional wooden building room divider. In the entrance hall it serves as a shoe cabinet, in the kitchen and the living room it offers extra storage place. The adjacent dining table is at the same height as the built-in fish tank. This way the fish can be a part of the goings-on at the table. The room divider and other wooden elements are made of ash tree with an interesting grain pattern. The layout of the sanitary facilities remained the same, except for new tiling and accessories. The most striking feature is the quartzite mosaic on the back wall of both rooms.
