Falco has recently supplied and installed six cycle counters for various locations within Apeldoorn as part of the ‘Bicycle Traffic Jam Free’ project. The aim of the project is to make cycling more appealing and to encourage commuters to consider cycling instead of using a car. One side of the cycle counter displays the time, temperature, amount of cyclists that has passed, the speed of the passing cyclist and expected travel time - this information is then transferred via GPRS. On the other side of the counter is a map displaying the local area. The cycle counters are provided with an anti-graffiti coating to deter vandalism.
Another recent cycle counter project includes the town of Brighton in the UK, although there are significantly less cyclists in the UK compared to the Netherlands, Brighton council commissioned the UK branch arm of Falco to supply and install a cycle counter to encourage cycling in the local area.
