CAPILLA VALLEJO ARQUITECTOS as Architects

The Ricardo Lorenzo space has marked the starting point to the rehabilitation of the whole neighbourhood in the centre of Santander. Zumthor counters how he, in the beginning of a project, meets again and again with the old and almost forgotten memories of determined architectural situations and ask what those situations mean for him and how he can use them in his architecture. With this spirit the architects executed the rehabilitation of the old winery in Aguayos street where the enlargement of the architecture school of Cantabria is projected - without forgetting that the correct and sensorial use of materials, which seems deeply rooted in ancestral knowledge of the people, can help us to achieve our objective. Providing the conditions that make it suitable to develop the daily work of the school and taking care of the values that remain in the space; transparency, versatility and economy.
