Efesto

EFESTO: a scenography for a theatrical performance

Giancarlo Covino as Architects

Small and temporary theater

Efesto, is not just a scenography, it is a small theater (33 seats) set up in the halls of an old machine shop for the show "Il Mangiafuoco" (conceived and directed by Michele Pagano, Officina Teatro production), represented during the Christmas holidays. Who or what that can keep the wires and paradoxically manage the life of another? Maybe love, maybe the power, perhaps a hierarchical structure. The representation staged reaches a unique awareness: all are victims, and at the same time, perpetrators of another.

For the need of the text and to emphasize the theme of the work, the setting is configured as a deep central perspective that catalyzes the vision of the public. The composition, extending in two rooms of the complex, generates a stun and unexpected spaciousness that delivery, to the two environments occupied, functions and conflicting connotations. To the extent that is hospitable and absorbing the first environment, which is allocated the audience, so the second, destined to become the scene, reveals deafening and reflective.

In order to give adequate visibility to every spectator, in the first room, the seats are positioned on an auditorium made with pallets stacked. Floors, walls and ceiling are completely covered in black like creating a dark room, a cozy womb. In the second room is set up the scene: a box that opens up to the public to reveal its hidden, silver, internal; a telescope semireflecting whose bottom sliding, together with the ports on the side walls, allows the entrance of the actors and the different solutions available. All fronts and the doors are coated with reflective aluminum sheets: a modern and mechanical dromos where walls, facing each, reverberate and amplify endlessly, actions, deeds and the lights present in the scene. The wide passage that connects the two environments becomes ideally proscenium.
