Duke of Wellington Stairs

Located in Melbourne city centre, The Duke of Wellington is Melbourne’s oldest hotel. Established in 1853 and recently renovated it is one of the most unique pieces of commercial architecture in the city. At it’s core a distinctive staircase marries the history of the building with a contemporary feel. The exposed brick walls combined with colourful floor coverings work very well with the natural timber finish and steel balustrades. This stair also combines different materials; American Oak treads and handrails work excellently with a closed pine stringer and black steel balustrades. Extending over four levels this structure adds understated detail and character to this hotel.
