Biuro Projektow Architektonicznych as Architects

Duży Staw Housing Estate is located in the eastern part of Katowice, situated 1,5 km from the city centre. On one side is adjacent to residential areas, on the other side to the recreational areas of the Trzy Stawy valley.

The Housing Estate was designed in accordance with the idea of zoning the availability of space, from public, by the semiprivate to private. The development consists of four eight-storeys buildings set on the shared, rectangular socle. There are 120 apartments and 4 retail units planned. The socle is delimiting the public and semiprivate area. From the street level there are entrances to the commercial surfaces, staircases, to underground car parks and the paths leading to the recreational courtyard, at the upper part of the socle. An additional stairways exits are conducting to this courtyard.

In each of the buildings there are 30 apartments, 4 or 5 on the floor. On the last floor, there are 2 luxury apartments of penthouse located, moved back in relation to the facade. All the flats have a flexible spatial-functional systems, which allows different alternatives of interior arrangement. Most apartments are one and two bedroom, ranging from 42 to 85 sq m surface. The three bedroom flats have 91 sq m surface, and penthouse apartments form 148 to 152 sq m.

Rectangular block core, along the entire perimeter is surrounded by glass balconies with curved contour. Each of apartments have a balcony or terrace, with the sliding glass panels closing system on the boundaries, enabling the use of these spaces also in the cooler days.

Entirely glazed balconies undulate alternately. Their outline, changes on every second floor, adds lightness to the building, and gives a contemporary architectural expression.
