The challenge is based on the re-interpretation of a Dental Clinic, in the search of a new clarity and spatial character.
The site is located on a first floor of a common building in the center of Torres Vedras.
The space requires a new image to provoke new atmospheres, new sensations.
The desire of creating a distinguished space in the city, more paused, contemplative, a space of reflection, leading to the discovery of the importance of silence and of spaces apparently empty yet full of life.
An experimentation where the selection of materials is sustained by the nobleness of materials. That experimentation is essentially realized with the immaterial architectural element, which is space. Working with space, is determined by perception, paths, light, reflections, transparencies, fluidity. The mass composed by a summary of recycled glasses, potentiates the reflections and the vibrations of the light, by creating a perception of space that is constantly mutating.
The search of a timeless space, with a plenitude of senses, where light is filtered in different ways, gives poetry to spaces, dignifying them.
INSPIRATION To understand the Clinic by giving it a bright, clear, solid, sculptural, modern and timeless character. The inspiration comes from a block of ice, materialized in an abstract way. From these assumptions and the analysis of the space, we create a mass of glass that vibrates like the cadency of the rhythms of nature.
MATERIALS
THE WHITE MASS The space is composed of a summary of white laminated wood, in different measures. The living areas are all of the same material but coated with white leather. This materialization gives perception of a block of ice that has been excavated in sculptural way.
THE MASS OF GLASSES In this project we wanted to experience something new, by bringing into our architecture a construction with a ‘handcraft’ and unique character. Given the contemporary time, we applied recycled glass of different colors, different thickness, and different qualities. For the glass walls we used glasses with different measures, only supported by leaning on each other. For the two glass doors, the entrance and the exit door, we used glasses with the same thickness. They create a movable surface of the same material.
The challenge is based on the selection and composition of all this material, creating a singular equilibrium, which potentiates the reflections and the vibrations of the light, by creating a perception of space that is constantly mutating.
