This bedroom pursues elegant sensuality through a study on materiality and form. Softness is met with flexibility; polished finishes are paired diffused lighting and transparency. And the ocean is drawn in through the tufted ecru-velvet window-alcoves. Raw, whitewashed tongue-and-groove wood cladding climbs two of the four walls and then gradually "unzips" beginning at the far corner revealing a rich pattern of handcrafted layers of alabaster-colored leather and patent leather. Suggestive of the elegant simplicity of Italy in the 1950's, a series of vintage Italian photos from the same period artfully complement the understated glamour of the room.
Atop six hexagonal jute rugs and aligned with the oceanfront windows, floats a Bluarch-designed and engineered bed, boasting a construction of solid maple rods anchoring the bed, and 36" flexible maple rods forming the supple headboard with plush golden-toned pillows for additional comfort. Simple bedding of white and cream linen with caramel fox and coyote throw pillows were custom designed. The 1950's whimsical Italian Stilnovo multi-lamp chandelier crowns the floating bed.
A Bluarch-design, the woman's maple vanity is organic in form countering the vertical wall cladding and is accented with a backlit Midcentury circular mirror and balancing antique brass floor lamps at either corner of the bedroom.
The closet is lacquered in a sensual, full red. White silk lingerie is hung on lace-adorned hangers.
