Crossrail Bond Street Station, London

John McAslan + Partners as Architects

John McAslan + Partners is responsible for the design of Crossrail's new Bond Street station. The new station sits in the centre of London and is one of the most important station for tourists and the wider public on the new Crossrail line.

The new station has two separate entrances at Davies Street and Hanover Square. John McAslan's team was also asked to carry out a detailed design to the urban real in the vicinity of the proposed new station.

The design will be used to ensure that the new stations operate effectively, and that the experience of using Crossrail is a positive one. The design of the urban realm focuses on the consideration that the station interfaces appropriately with the station entrance, station building envelope, OSD and its immediate surroundings in accordance with the aspirations of both CRL, the local authority and other stakeholders.

The urban design study takes into account and develops the following factors: - The heritage and character of the area and materials, given the proximity to Mayfair and other conservation areas . - Minimisation of pedestrian-vehicular conflicts (including identifying appropriate traffic management measures) due to large number of pedestrians accessing and the station entrances. - Enhancement of connectivity, wayfinding and orientation to main arteries such as Regent Street, Oxford Street and the Bond street area. - Attention to local residents priorities, such as parking (re-)provision and consultation . - Security considerations.
