One of the most exclusive hotels in Zurich, Hotel Baur au Lac first created its Club Diagonal over 30 years ago, a high-society lounge and club that has incredibly remained of the city’s hotspots. For the club’s renovation, the hotel wanted to refresh the club’s look and feel, while remaining consistent to what has become a local classic.

The challenges were numerous: the floor plan could not be altered, while updated fire codes had to be considered. The design thus centered on reducing materials to their most simplistic essence, with a particular focus on texture and tactile quality.

The concept mixes sumptuous materials and a decidedly understated color palette for a minimal-luxe interior, communicating luxury in a casually elegant manner that precisely matches the attributes of the club's clientele. Blue reflective glass activated by the changing effects of light and color energize the dance and bar area, while warmer wall coverings in orange impart a more intimate and cozy ambience for the seating areas.

As part of the overall communications strategy, dai also developed the visual identity, including logo, stationery, and employee uniform.
