In the suburb of San Sebastian de los Reyes, Madrid, ULMA has executed a High School with a touch of ART.
"The idea of installing some cubes on the facade came out of the teamwork between the architect Lucio Alberto Martin and the sculptor and painter Luis Feito, founder of El Paso Group and key figure in the Spanish contemporary art."
The material selected for the main facade of the building of the library has been polymer concrete panels in black with different formats between 180x90 and 30x90 cm. Its uniqueness is based on three-dimensional effect achieved by the cubic volumes design by Luis Feito. They selected a satin finish for the main plane of the facade, with details of water-miniwave panels, and a shinny finish for the cubes. This combination of textures helps to emphasize the game between volumes, with its lights and shadows.
The greatest technical challenge was the performing of the five faces of the cubes, which must fly 11 or 20 cm above the surface of the enclosure. Each of the panels had to be manufactured individually, and installed with an auxiliary structure.
