CITY HALL MAINZ - RATHAUS MAINZ

City Hall Mainz

MAURICE HOUBEN ARCHITECTURE as Architects

The town hall in Mainz (designed by Arne Jacobsen) is currently heavily disputed. "Beamtengefängnis", "Städtebauliches Juwel", "modern masterpiece" are some shouts where this monument of modernity is compared with. The opinions of the citizens and government is sharply divided, about what should be done in the future with this monumental building. A completely new building or major and carful renovation? Certain is that something must be done in short term with this obsolete town hall. Renovation offers the opportunity to ensure the town hall monumentality character and this prominent building could develop as part of the society and the urban environment.

This design challenge requires a strong, inviting town hall, where the inhabitants of Mainz can be proud of. A future-proof building, that makes the connection with the historical past of Mainz, but also represents a new era of a sustainable, social and responsible society. The qualities of the environment are integrated integrally in this new transformation and renovation design of the town hall Mainz. There is a design philosophy applied arguing from the user.   A good building does not create only a beautiful appearance, but also a thoughtful alignment of functional aspects, such as routing, flexibility, indoor climate, sustainable materials, pleasant colors etc. A healthy building where people feel comfortable and have areas where they can perform optimally and can provide good service to the citizens of the city.

+ Sustainable building + energy-efficient + renovation & transformation + Healthy Office + transparent town hall + representative and functional facade + Interior design
