The facade refers to the last century’s cinemas. Behind them, six movie theatres are full equiped with digital projection rooms. This technological innovation is an opportunity for the Ciné 32 association to further his film’s action distribution. The building will take place to the old Spanish former military barracks, in the city centre of Auch (south west of France). It signals the second milestone - following the planning for a circus nearby - in the development of this area which has newly been repurposed as a hub for the cultural arts.
Rather than creating a large infrastructure-type multiplex, we design it like a collection of small neighbourhood theatres side by side. We drew our inspiration from the old pediments. We’ d like to reinterprete them, using a wood cladding, featuring a herringbone patterned lattice. A large number identifies each room. The last of those six volumes is a large glass-roofed lobby. The association offices takes place on the mezzanine. Workshops for young audiences, exhibition spaces and a bar within the building create a user friendly place; as an essential counterpoint to the dark cinemas.
