Paul Morgan Architects proposes a futuristic, energy efficient building that will act as a metaphor for energy efficient vehicles that will be required in the future. PMA has established a conceptual approach that will embody Chisholm Institute’s mission of: learning success, capable, adaptive, collaborative and prosperous.

The building is a ‘performance shell’ which responds aerodynamically to wind conditions and thermally to solar orientation and penetration. It also intentionally looks like an industrial design object, a transportation vehicle that relates to the teaching and learning contained within and will visually inspire students and define the West end of the campus. The building design has the potential to ‘market’ training delivery programs offered by Chisholm.

The ‘long life loose fit’ building concept is one that allows for built-in programmatic flexibility. As discussed, the nature of training programs will change over time. PMA has produced a concept design for the TTC which is a large open plan steel portal framed building. Maintaining the structure on the perimeter of the building allows for easy future changes in the location of lightweight partitioning. Building services are designed to be adaptable into the future.
