Formerly Humboldt Park Social Services, the Center for Changing Lives has served the neediest persons in the Logan Square & Humboldt Park communities since 1989. Its mission is to provide comprehensive support to serve, empower and advocate for community residents who are experiencing homelessness or housing instability so they may obtain and maintain permanent housing.
JGMA was hired to assist in relocating the Center for Changing Lives by transforming a conventional one-story Logan Square storefront into a new unique community counseling center to include intake and supportive services. Working closely with the CCL, JGMA identified th necessity for both private, confidential rooms and collective areas. This suggested a conceptual arrangement of private offices and counseling rooms at the perimeter of the space, arranged around a central “knowledge core” containing a computer room and classroom for group training. The end result will be a sustainably-focused and budget-conscious facility utilizing donated, recycled and reclaimed materials such as magazine bundle office partitions and reclaimed glass panels--where the Center for Changing Lives can more effectively pursue its mission.
