This isolated house is situated in the countryside outside the town of Favara, Sicily, close to the coast and few miles from Valley of the Temples in Agrigento. It takes it's inspiration from the modern rationalism, not only in it's stylistic characteristics, but also in it's combination of functionality and landscape. The house is orientated to enjoy the beautiful landscape of the surrounding countryside. The design prioritises the visual relationship between the living spaces and the surrounding landscape in the form of cantilevered terraces within the mass of the building. The composition of volumes is defined by the surrounding topography and the result is a unique family home that sits harmoniously within it's natural context.
The internal distribution of the spaces is simple yet functional. The plan is rectangular in shape and the program split over two floors, with sleeping quarters located on the Lower Ground floor level and the more living spaces above, on the Ground Floor level. Internal spaces have a direct connection to the external garden and countryside through the terraces. The glazed corner on the upper ground floor level emphasises the connection between inside and outside, providing vistas of the coastline and the sea. The material and chromatic colour choices of white and grey render create a strong contrast between the building and the landscape. This unique piece of architecture dominates in the middle of the countryside.
