Cambridge Pool Pavilion

The proposed design extends the house both programmatically and formally with a continuous wooden floor that embraces the garden. The extension creates an open circular yard focused on a mature cedar. This new flooring steps into the skirts of the back cliff with an elevated deck one meter above grade level. The property is located in a quarry in Cambridge, north of London, and has two distinct levels creating a unique back yard surrounded by a cliff-side garden. The indoor space is defined by a system of bi-folding glass doors, creating a "transparent film" that can be opened, and expanded towards the outside. The new deck provides an intermediate space for relaxation and leisure that brings together the main house, the garden and the cliff.
