The "Business Hotel" is located at the western entrance of Thessaloniki, positioned on the crossroad of two main streets and on the bounds of the center of the city. The area enclosed by the specific main streets shown on the map, is the most suitable location for the city's business area. The afore-mentioned location is a red-light district full of warehouses, and some office buildings. This makes it very difficult to change the existent low living standards to a worthwhile habitable region. The low cost of the building plots sets the location suitable for a business area that could be developed from scratch.
The concept was a game with the outline of the site. The outline was formed after we had taken into consideration values such as ,the distance from the neighboring buildings, routes for the pedestrians and the use of the ground floor, by applying forces depending on the importance that we wanted to give.
The next step was to multiply the outline at z axis and rotate/scale the upper floors periodically so that light be efficient in the atrium at the ground floor. We also cut the southern piece to leverage the volume ,let more light into the atrium and use an existing building for the use of the conference halls. We set free every floor from static elements so as to deasign the different kind of use spaces fully indepentant. The solution was a mesh outside and inside(at the atrium) that would hold the weight of such a structure.
A surface ,consisting of a pattern of cyclic windows ,depending on the sunlight and the orientation of the area behind the surface, is the outside skin that let the guest to control lighting of the room.
