Bismarckschool Hanover: Turnkey building. Redevelopement. Renovation.
To expand a time-honored grammar school with a new building, to remediate and to renovate its heritage-protected Art Nouveau old building from 1911 – the Lindner Group received this global order for the Bismarckschool in Hanover. The implementation as general contractor was part of a financing model.
Built something new. The construction of a new building, consisting of 10 classrooms as well as a spacious full-day area with dining room, a kitchen and recreational areas was the beginning of this overall project. The focus was on the acoustic performance in the classrooms, ensured by suspended acoustic ceilings and wall absorbers. In order to save primary energy in the long term and to reduce the maintenance costs lasting, Lindner planned and built the extension according to current PHPP requirements. Two buildings. Perfectly connected. One unit. The new building is accessible without barriers, not least by an elevator to the second floor. Through a second elevator the old building is also handicapped-accessible. Reshaped. Because of the strict provisions for the protection of historic sites, the refurbishment of the two sports halls was a special challenge for the logistics. The 250 m² big halls were not accessible for the necessary demolition equipment. Thus, the entire concrete floor space had to be removed by hand. Also any pollutants in old building components were removed successfully. By doing this, the sports halls are up-to-date with regard to health and safety. Technical modernization in harmony with monument protection. It was necessary, to construct the corridors, the staircases and the assembly hall close to the original condition of 1911. The basic renovation of the school includes also the refit of the fire protection concept, among other things with the installation of a F90 concrete ceiling. Furthermore, the former appearance of the natural stone façade was to be restored. That means old appearance but with new energy consumption. For this, single glazed windows were used and the insulation of roof areas, attics and basement walls were upgraded. To guarantee a smooth and safe process during operation, Lindner provides suitable equipped module compartment.
