The Bath Lounge

Katta ceramics

Studio Paradigm as Architects

The project was conceived on the 2nd Floor of Katta Ceramics when the PORCELANOSA BATH , a renowned Spanish brand decided to launch its first venture in Bangalore . Occupying an important location within the Store , The PORCELANOSA BATH needed a strong sense of identify on par with the designer range that it offered through a process of interpreting / translating and conceptualizing space influencing lifestyles. The program involved sharing the floor space with other brands , and the challenge was to unify the entire floor into one experience without losing individual identity for the different brands

Conceived more as an experience rather than just a place to display the products the project revolves around the idea of experience with WATER . The display of products ( mainly wash basins / steam cubicles / showers / cp fittings revolve essentially around the use of water in different forms creating multiple experiences . The ceiling expresses itself as a series of waves where some of these patterns extend further onto the walls and floor .This creates a subtle yet permanent background for the display allowing for flexibility and change at floor level. The lighting generated casts interesting light and shadow patterns which further enhance the overall experience. The project seeks to achieve an open and unobstructed movement flow . Visual access to different areas on the floor give a sense of openness, while raised platforms help organize the product displays and control movement The ceiling with its subtle lighting helps unify the space while forming a backdrop to the products. The lounge space in the center caters to the different product zones and forms a central PAUSE ZONE from where various brands can be accessed .

The display is restricted to the periphery with island displays in the center allowing for movement to be unhindered with columns. The discussion areas for secondary Pause zones. The ceiling extends to form the floor / display areas and furniture enhancing the overall experience. Signage’s are treated more as walls rather than add-ons to a surface thus forming backdrops to the products . The 50 ft wall with the signage based on the theme of water taken on a black background is visible from all locations of the showroom and stands in contrast to the product display itself ..

River finished granite, terrazo and shera board is used for flooring which brings in a sense of tactility to the project as it contrasts with the smooth plastered flowing surfaces .The ceiling is highlighted with a series of LED strips , not directly seen lending a light and shadow effect highlighting the wave pattern.Lighting is seen more as a texture to the ceiling rather than just a device illuminating the products.
