Conceptual framework Ideas were explored about space that could invoke a sense of history and dependability without the use of historical furniture pieces. The intention was to create an architectural space with a highly integrated aesthetic.
Resolution To achieve a sense of timeless dependability, solid materials were worked according to older carpentry and furniture building principals. Physical jointing methods were utilised rather than glues and veneers. ‘Off the shelf’ fittings were avoided in favour of integrated handles and customized fittings.
The space was treated as an internal, inverted landscape, creating a ‘horizon line’ with shelving and trims. This line integrates wall planes and cabinet items into a visually linked whole. .
