BALUARTE. Luxury Villa. DOM3 PRIZE 2014. FINALIST PROJECT. Design Team: Carlos Martin Perez / Miguel Maiza Urbieta. Arquitectos.
Baluarte is a villa located in a magnificent plot of 105.000 square feet in La Zagaleta Club, in Marbella, Spain. The project is the result of an deep insight into luxury houses as the ultimate expression of design, quality and location, unifying architecture, landscape and interior decoration.
No access to the property from the North: an ideal location for a fortress. The challenge is to put together all its different and colorful parts into integrated beauty and harmony. The villa connects with the existing local vegetation and its environment. Energy friendly: modern thermal solar panels to heat the swimming pools and the underfloor heating system. Rainwater is used and there is also a system to reuse waste water for irrigation. Domotics. Low emission glasses with solar protection…
Exclusive use of natural materials, not only because of their origin but also in the manner they are finished. Natural finishes, cut stones, washed woods… a visual and a tactile experience. Natural stones: marble from the Spanish famous region of Macael; semigloss white marble for the finished floor of the ground floor and for the terrace finished floors on the outdoor swimming pool area with anti-slip treatment; quarry-faced granite in garage access and walls, granite shelves next to the fireplace... Natural woods: woods treated as “washed woods”. Indoors: olive tree wood for fixed parts such as doors, dressing rooms… Ourdoors: treated pineapple tree wood with “washed wood” finish for the facade and mobile panels for solar protection in the indoor pool. In the main staircase and the finished floor of the upper floor, jatoba wood with a semigloss finish is used. Last details to be agreed with the owner.
