The Project was awarded by private competition and consisted in remodelling an old two storey house located in the bohemian neighbourhood of Bellavista in Santiago Chile, so that it would accommodate a new Bar-Restaurant.
The owners, who are well known Chilean actors, wanted to maintain the old appearance of the property, but at the same time, to renew all installations in accordance with all the demands of a first rate gastronomic establishment.
The architectural proposal maintains and respects the perimeter shell composed by the masonry walls and eliminates most of the existing interior walls in order to integrate spaces. In the access level, a large central bar is proposed as the protagonist element of the restaurant; on the other hand, on the second level, the floor is completely open in order to organize a more informal environment.
From the outside, the home presence in the neighbourhood is accentuated by eliminating the walls that are on the property line. The façade of the house was very carefully restored promoting its original materials such as its masonry, and in its central axis, a glass feature was opened which decidedly defines the access. The balcony was reconstructed in steel in order to show a different expression and material nature, with the purpose of making the intervention obvious but at the same time controlled.
