Not without certain difficulties, the project successfully interrupts the continuous plane of facades of the Granada ringroad through the insertion of a “surprise gap” in the road’s monotonous length.
The residential block is situated in the rear part of the site and the municipally owned structure is transferred towards the ringroad, giving it the leading role in the design.
In this way the flats are set back from the annoying urban traffic whilst at the same time winning privileged views over the Genil fertile plain.
The municipal structure stands out as the urban and services landmark that it is meant to be for both the ringroad and the town. As a backdrop, the housing block stands back and respectfully adapts to the surrounding constructions, rising above and shaping the existing road and buildings, overcoming complicated links, open patios and unconcealed dividing walls.
