Location: The building is located in Helsinki’s Paloheinä in a small scale housing area. Surrounding buildings consists of housing 40’s housing typology (rintamamiestalo) and later 70’s and 80’s built row houses. The massing creates a low eave height in the direction of the road.
Architecture and use: The architecture aims to be fragmented and modest. The living spaces and car shelter was connected to the overall shape with the aim of side walls that protect the roofterrace. Between the carshelters and living spaces there is a covered terrace where the spaces for cooling after sauna are located. The main living spaces – living room, kitchen and dining space – open up to the inner coutryard with a light terrace that isleveled with the ground. The bedrooms are located on the upper floor that opens up to the private, sheltered and sunny roof terrace.
Energy: Thermally efficiently insulated building fabric is connected to the district heating network. Additionally the building is equipped with a heatsource pump that is used in heating aswell as cooling during the summer. Efficient lighting was achieved with energy efficient LED-lights.
