100%Terschelling launched during Oerol festival
Social design, innovation and sustainability presented in the most tangible and down to earth way, that is 100%Terschelling. This project fits perfectly within Oerol’s theme Sense of Place: what do you take from your environment? But more importantly, what do you contribute back to it? Over the last three years with the generous support of Stichting DOEN, 100%Terschelling has produced a series of thought provoking projects and products each of them rooted in Terschelling in their own unique way. The message of this project—to be aware of the potential of your close environment—did not go unnoticed and has been welcomed and incorporated by various companies and organizations on Terschelling.
Harvest and knowledge map Commissioned by Oerol, Elmo Vermijs initiated this map that explores Terschelling’s production processes, leftover materials and expertise. The map resulted in the construction of the 100%Terschelling Pavilion, which is now in use as meeting place. It sets an example for a social and local way of designing by involving local residents and using available expertise and materials, thus ensuring less transport and promoting the local economy. Eventually, more than 20 parties got involved in building the Pavilion. As a result, each part tells its own story of Terschelling, which gives the Pavilion its unique character.
100% Terschelling expedition As part of Oerol’s expedition program, which operates on the cross section of art, nature and landscape, 100%Terschelling expanded its activities within the festival and presented its ideas in the 100%Terschelling Cabin. Under the banner of 100%Terschelling multiple creators presented five projects with the local environment and materials as starting point.
