Dienst Informatie and Administratie in Groningen

Dienst Informatie and Administratie in Groningen

SKETS architectuurstudio as Architects

The existing building of the Dienst Informatie and Administratie of the municipality in Groningen was an office building dating from the eighties with poor energy management and an outdated interior. Skets architectural studio acquired the assignment in an European selection with a plan that lead to a label A for the renovated building. The plan transforms the existing building to an open office building in which transparency, a contemporary office environment and high comfort level are key elements in the design.

The Dienst Informatie and Administratie of the municipality of Groningen provides for the issuing of passports, drivers licenses, the registration of births and more. Beside these citizen focussed services it is also the hub for the ICT of the entire municipality. Due to logistical reasons a clear division has been made between the public and non public functions of the building, resulting in the restaurant being moved to the ground floor as well as the meeting centre.

The entire building is fitted with a new technical installation which ensures the sustainability of the revitalized building. All adaptations have been done to aid in a comfortable and healthy indoor climate. Extra attention was given to lighting and acoustics, the basics concepts for a good concentration.
