Masisa as Manufacturers

Masisa Horizontes

Masisa, one of the leading producers and marketers of wood boards for furniture and architecture in Latin America, announced its new portfolio of design and brands under the name" Horizontes ". This portfolio is the result of a partnership with leading Mexican design professionals that culminated in the creation of an exclusive collection distinguished by its original creative concepts. The new portfolio, made with 100 % sustainable materials, meets the latest global trends in architecture and industrial design. In the exhibition, Masisa created four indoors with signature pieces of furniture designed by some of the most renowned exponents of Mexican design: Ariel Rojo, Emiliano Godoy, Savvy Studio and ROW Studio. The designers sought to highlight the attributes of the four Masisa product categories: Panelart ®, MDFsmart, Wilsonart ® and Naturart, achieving environments full of vitality and energy, representing the future of design in Mexico.

Environmental ideation was made from three different approaches. First, Godoy resorted to the uniformity of the board, designing small floor armchairs which by means of a progression of complex curves, generates a comfortable surface and simultaneously displays the inside of the panels, thus obtaining a set of harmonics and highly ergonomic furniture.

The second proposal revolves around the possibility of creating large lattice, light yet complex, reminiscent of the sophisticated Moorish patterns. Finally, following contemporary trends in the treatment of curved surfaces, Emiliano Godoy proposes a large headboard for bed that folds to generate a curved back from only one Naturart Masisa board. The veneer from which the piece is made of takes us back to the warmth and comfort indoors to rest.

Industrial designer Emiliano Godoy has worked for 15 years in applied sustainability projects, using design as a tool for positive change in society and the environment. He has a master in industrial design from the Pratt Institute (New York) and a degree in industrial design from the Universidad Iberoamericana (Mexico) with studies in furniture by Danish Design School (Copenhagen). Godoy runs the design studio that bears his name, which develops both consumer products and interior projects, architecture, urban interventions and exhibitions. He is also co-founder of Pirwi, the Mexican company of sustainable furniture, member of the NEL design collective and part of the boutique workshop TUUX. For his work, he has received numerous awards in Mexico and abroad. One of his most recent recognitions was the inclusion of the Knit Chair in the permanent collection of MoMA.
