The apartment is located on the ground floor of a functionalist building designed by architect Jan Gillar and completed in 1938. The original flat layout didn´t suit the needs of modern living standards due to its unbalanced layout (absence of kitchen and storage). The apartment also lacked the generosity which is evident in apartments on the upper floors of the same building.
The complex spatial remodelling was carried out in three different conceptual levels: 1) Remodelling the layout by creating new kitchen and storage space proportionally dimensioned to the original sized living spaces; 2) Updating mechanical infrastructure and fittings; 3) Creating an open continuous living space model through material unity. These layout and spatial modifications help to create a concept of a living space with maximum visual purity and with a degree of variability in line with the clients’ needs for a living space that is quiet and harmonic yet situated in the heart of the city.
