Gemeenschappelijk Milieulaboratorium (GML) is a 7-floor laboratory built by order of the University of Utrecht: the University, Deltares and TNO will use this brand-new complex. The hybrid main framework consists of 2 cores and 12 wall partitions and is connected to the façade (using columns). The technical department is made of steel columns and the entrance building consists of a wooden/steel roof structure which is carried by steel tube columns. Furthermore, the project includes laboratories, office space, clean rooms (class ISO 8) and a technical floor. The interior wall panels are very flexible so that rooms can be easily adapted to future needs.
The project is connected to the underground filing system “Noordwesthoek” of “De Uithof”. Heat pumps will provide the client an accurate energy balance: the installations are flexible, sustainable and modular. GML is situated next to the existing TNO building and the new construction Geo site. Züblin Nederland BV was responsible for the construction and the design of the building including coordination of all parcels, logistic management and nuisance reduction.
