Haagse Binckjes

Haags Werk as Architects

The HaagseBinckjes is anconcept of studio TILIA. Studio TILIA is an architectural office that invented the HaagseBinckjes.

De HaagseBinckjes

The HaagseBinckjes are small, tough, have loads of character and stimulate reuse of abandoned buildings. These dismountable wooden units can be completely furnished as a comfortable self sustained office space. With little effort in this way empty buildings can offer students, artists or entrepreneurs an inspiring place to work. The HaagseBinckjes are easily constructed, this makes moving between different temporary locations possible. Two people, two wrenches and a ladder is all it takes to assemble a Binckje. The Binckjes are a great solution for empty buildings, shortage of affordable workspace and the soloist entrepreneur.

They really come into their own when combined forming a small community inside a large building. In this way different people of different areas of expertise can share and benefit from their inspiring and supportive proximity. When needed two people can push their Binckjes together and can work project based in a double sized workspace. The HaagseBinckjes are also perfectly suitable as small office spaces in a workshop, as a stand or as an entrance desk in a public building. The inventor of the Binckjesis an architect and she has the experience of creating a pleasant workspace in an abandoned factory hall. While searching for office space studio TILIA found numerous empty buildings in the city, but they would often be neglected or simply not climatised making efficient reuse more difficult. Temporary reuse of these buildings through colonization with HaagseBinckjes will effectively reposition these places into the urban fabric. Investors might feel better inclined to concentrate on these places that in this way have not been completely neglected. The name HaagseBinckjes is derived from the place where they were initiated, an industrial area near the centre of The Hague in the Netherlands, the Binckhorst.
