MINT HOTEL (now: Double Tree by Hilton) Mint Hotel is one of the largest hotels in the Netherlands. It has 553 rooms and will be opening by the beginning of 2011. The hotel is situated next to the Central Station at the Oosterdokseiland. M+R’s concept for the interior is based on high quality and a businesslike atmosphere. The style is timelessmodern and comfortable. The challenge is to create an intimate environment despite a high hotel occupancy, where people can feel relaxed and at home.
For the design M+R was inspired by the hotel chain’s Scottish roots. The ambience of stacked wooden whisky barrels, recurs in round shapes and special cladding on the bars. The same wooden finish has been added to the floors and interior elements, creating a spacious effect. The wallcovering and upholstery were chosen in the same style.
